Literally Moving

Another Dance Company have just completed their latest dance education project; Literally Moving.

6 Sheffield schools from Points School Sports Partnership worked with ADC to create a dance performance.

3 primary schools & 3 secondary schools separately explored a book they were studying in school and looked at various ways to create dance from text.  Using young people’s ideas and imaginations each dance that was created was unique and individual to each group.  The cross phase project aimed to show children and young adults how text can be analysed and understood on many different levels with fun and innovative approaches to movement.

Each school worked with very different books, leading to 6 very different dances.  While Silverdale pupils tackled the anguish and rivalry of Romeo and Juliet, Grenoside Primary explored the magical pages of Harry Potter.

The project revealed to the young dancers, as well as the audience, how dance can be a useful tool to inspire and engage people in physical activity and reading.

The project was funded by a Performing Arts Grant from the Clore Duffield Foundation.
